It really does help in following along.

The really great thing has been finding the mp3s! That way, people can actually learn the tunes without having to work out them out from the chant scores; it's terrific that the St. David's Compline Choir and the LLPB post the sound files. It makes it so much better to hear them, I think, so I'm really grateful to those groups and others for posting the clips.

And it's nice to learn the tunes to these hymns, because they stay with you; when I hear them now, I know exactly how they go, even if I don't always remember which hymn the tune is used for.

Anyway, thanks again. I don't think I'll be posting Feast days again next year, though! The Office has been the same for a thousand years, so I don't think big changes will happen in the next 365 days. ;-)

(But maybe I'll publish the posts I've already done as a feed; that way, you can still get them delivered right to your Inbox.)

And BTW: best wishes on your Office prayers!

Those of us who sing or say the offices regularly - and even semi-regularly - find out that they make a big difference in our whole attitude and approach to life. It's really pretty amazing, in fact, that that happens.

And I find that following along with the Church Year is just a wonderful way to stay attuned to the passage (and hallowing) of time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11760886.post-35108763431121726592008-07-25T19:54:00.000-04:002008-07-25T19:54:00.000-04:00As someone who has recently embarked on praying th...As someone who has recently embarked on praying the Office and trying to sing at least some of it (in the privacy of my home, only), I really appreciate the research you do for this blog and the posting of links to words and tunes for seasonal hymns etc.

For me finding the words and the tune on the same page is important so I'm using the Lutheran Brotherhood Prayer Book to help me follow the mp3 sound. That makes it a useful supplement to the Universalis text which I use as my main reource. It is so much easier for a beginner to follow the Office there than fumbling with pages and markers, and I like Martin K's translations of the psalms.

My only regret is that - living as I do in Australia - your chant posts usually arrive a day late. But I'll know where to look for them next year! It's probably a good thing that I'm starting in relatively quiet season from the liturgical point of view.

Blessings on your work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
