Was at this service tonight. Absolutely lovely. I'm a lifelong Episcopalian and Anglo-Catholic, but somehow this was my first Tenebrae service. Wonderful.
The "noise" was frightening. Much more moving than the slam of a book that we do in these here parts.
Yes, it was really beautiful, I agree.
I've heard that the noise was at one time made by a bunch of choristers stamping their feet or something. But last night it sounded like piles of books falling....
